Paint Horse Coat Colours

What is A Paint Horse?
Click Here for Paint Horse Markings

The unique coat colours of the American Paint Horse make it an eye-catching addition to anyone's barn. Each Paint Horse has a unique combination of white and any other colour found in the equine world. Each colour falls into one of two basic coat-colour families - Red or Black.

There are several different independent genetic factors that control a horses outward appearance. Some of these control basic coat colour while others may work to modify or, in some cases, hide the basic colour. Each colour ranges from light to dark, including everything in between. Weather, nutrition, shedding, body condition and the horses general health can affect this variation in colour.
