Jackie and "Macco"

Macco (on left) being judged at the BC Sport
Horse Show (Summer 2009) |
Jackie began riding at the age of 7 and has
been an avid shower since the very
beginning. Now 16 years old, Jackie has
competed almost exclusively in the Arabian
showing circuit and has earned Top 5 and
Reserve Champion Awards Provincially and
Regionally in English flat classes.
Feeling the need to take a
break from constant showing,
Jackie decided to explore other areas of the
equine world and get back to having more fun
with horses instead of it being all 'work'. Included in her exploration was
learning how to drive a horse pulling a
stone-boat and wagon, Trail Course work on a
former World-Champion Quarter Horse,
schooling a friend's green Rocky Mountain
horse, as well as schooling and showing a
trio of Canadian breed horses belonging to
neighbors.
During this time
Jackie developed a very strong sense of what
she wanted in a horse, but the question was
whether she would ever come across a horse
that would live up to her expectations. In
the winter of 2008, while perusing "Horse
For Sale" ads online, Jackie saw the photo
of a Registered Paint gelding with a very
distinctive white "lightning bold" mark on
his neck, and instinctively knew there was
something special about this horse.
"Macco" joined Jackie and her family in
January 2009 and the new horse/rider combo
bonded in no time at all. As new members of
the BC Paint Horse Club, Jackie and Macco
earned year-end high point Champion in both
the "Youth" and "English" Divisions of the
Open Show & Competition Program as well as
the year-end high point Champion "APHA
Registered Horse" with the BC Sport Horse
Club.
